About OakNorth

OakNorth is a neobank focused on serving and empowering established businesses that are seeking to scale but are routinely underserved or overlooked by traditional banks.

Impact at a Glance

Since 2023, over 59,000 students — including 14,500 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds — have benefitted from the OakNorth-powered Founders4Schools programme. Focused on different cities across the UK, the programme opens up place-based opportunities in STEM, mentorship, and career pathways, directly supporting schools to deliver against the Gatsby Benchmarks for good career guidance.

From career networking events where students secured work experience on the spot, to teacher-praised sessions delivered by inspiring volunteers, this high-quality programme is raising aspirations and unlocking opportunities for young people.

How educators benefit from the programme

One standout success came when Careers Advisor Chinyere Nnaukwu-Kalu Nkwocha at Bishop Ullathorne Catholic School partnered with F4S to deliver a ‘Meet with Industry’ event for Year 12s. Students networked with professionals such as Daniel Nti Boakye (Software Testing Developer) and David Ukwu (Petroleum Engineering & AI graduate), with some even securing work experience opportunities on the spot:

“The event was a success. The students enjoyed networking with individuals from various industries and were able to secure some work experience placements. They thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Teachers consistently highlight the impact for both students and their schools:

“Hamish was excellent. He presented confidently and used a well-planned presentation with excellent photos and key information to keep Year 10 engaged at the end of a very long and hot June day.” — Stacy Jones, Callerton Academy

“Anjana delivered an informative and interactive presentation. 100% would recommend a workshop such as this, the average rating for the session overall was 4.8. They all wanted another session.”

Aksa Malik, Chadwell Heath Academy

How volunteers benefit from the programme

How volunteers benefit from the programme
With OakNorth’s support, volunteers not only make a difference to young people but also grow through the experience themselves — building confidence, gaining insight into students’ challenges, and feeling more motivated than ever to give back.

• Confidence:
“My first session was a learning curve, but it allowed my confidence to grow. For someone starting with little experience, it’s a really valuable way to develop.”

• Awareness:
“It’s good to see at first hand the challenges facing students getting into the workplace.”

• Motivation:
“I feel more than ever that we need to do more of this to help inspire the next generation.”

Looking ahead:

With OakNorth’s support, the Founders4Schools programme continues to connect students with real-world career opportunities, strengthen schools’ careers provision through the Gatsby Benchmarks, and provide rewarding experiences for the volunteers who give their time.
