Why Focus on Socio-Economic Deprivation?

Children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds face a range of barriers that significantly limit their educational opportunities and career aspirations. These barriers often include:

• Lack of exposure to inspiring role models in industries such as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths).
• Fewer opportunities for career exploration, mentorship, and work experience
• Financial instability and the absence of a supportive network, often resulting in lower educational attainment and fewer prospects for further study or meaningful employment.

This creates a vicious cycle of disadvantage that many children struggle to break out of. The lack of access to career guidance, mentorship, and opportunities often leaves young people unaware of the full range of career options available to them, particularly in high-demand fields like technology, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
